Stephan Shay: "Why I Run"

Elite marathoner Stephan Shay lives an unconventional lifestyle.  Training out of a vintage 1966 Clark Cortez bus, he regularly turns in 80-90 mile weeks in sunny Huntington Beach, California.  For Stephan and his siblings, running has always been a family affair.  The youngest of eight children, he was coached by his father as a child and grew up idolizing his older brother, Ryan, who tragically suffered a heart attack and died during the 2007 U.S. Olympic Marathon trials.  After considering quitting the sport, Stephan forged on and turned in a sparkling 15th place finish in the 2014 NYC Marathon.  His story exists as both a profoundly inspirational narrative and a thoughtful commentary on the life of a gifted, yet unorthodox professional athlete.
